Just got this photo from Machnau.  This is the snowman he made on his front porch during one of the numerous snow storms to hit the Pacific Northwest over the past weeks.  There's several feet of snow on the ground in downtown.  He's going crazy not skating so he's throwing some friends in the car and headed to Southern California where it's currently 75 (23 for you Canucks) and sunny.

Went to the "Deathbowl to Downtown" premier last night, and needless to say it was amazing. Buddy and Rick make good movies. Anyhow here are some more images from G.A.Y.S.R....I mean that's why I was there, right?

This past Sunday NC board shop had its "triple set challenge", and we were there in full effect! It was a star studded event to say the least, with people from Hunter Muraira to Caswell Berry to Nick Fiorini. It was hot as hell and the ground was like a cheese grater, but these dudes got loose! The tiltmode army judged the event, the turnout was excellent, and fun was had by all!

SKATEPARK OF TAMPA SELLS OUT AND GOES CORPORATE
New Owners Demand Price Increases

Tampa, Florida - April 1, 2008 - With A Surprising Move That Happened just this morning at 7am EST, Brian Schaefer, founder and owner, and Ryan Clements, general manager, signed over all rights of operation of the legendary Skatepark of Tampa to a large corporation. Rumors of "all they care about is the money" have finally been proven true in the fickle skateboarding Indu$try.

The surprise sell-out happened on what is the eve of the 1st Annual IASC Indu$try Summit, a meeting of the evil corporate businessmen that control the state of skateboarding. Clements is a speaker at the Summit whose presentation is highly anticipated by all those who also wish to control skateboarding.

Other sell-outs like Tony Hawk and Jamie Thomas rejoiced with the news. "I thought that I was the last real skateboarder that was going to sell out," claimed Thomas. "Time for a big-ass, expensive steak dinner for those dudes," he added.

Hawk chimed in and said, "It's about time I have some other rich skateboarders to chill with." "Clements has been to my place and skated my private skate park that overlooks the Pacific - hopefully that helped sway his decision to cash in."

Skatepark of Tampa stock will be available for purchase on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker SPoT) as of opening Friday morning. It's expected to "come out swingin'" with a price of $73 per share. Schaefer has been getting hit up from everyone that he has ever met to get in on the "bro discount."

Additionally, the new corporate owners of Skatepark of Tampa have demanded price increases for higher profit margins to be effective immediately, but were unavailable for comment. However, their website (skateparkoftampa.com) has the new price-list posted:

Monday - Friday Sessions: 10am - 12pm/12pm - 2pm/2pm - 4pm/4pm - 6pm/6pm - 8pm/8pm - 10pm

Cost per Session: $12 ($11 for members)

More New Rules: No photos or video will be permitted at Skatepark unless previously authorized with the corporate businessmen. Also, all food and beverages MUST be purchased at the Snack Bar, soon to be serving alcohol for those of age.

Upon hearing the report after getting up at sunrise and working out, Adam Dyet called Clements and asked, "Dude, how can I sell out, too?"

We are in Tampa, and so far its been tight! Me, Terell, Ewan Bowman, David Gonzales, and Chris Robinson. Domecenzo and Robert Lopez and Fiorini come today! I have been renegading non-stop, teaching others my god given gift. We sat next to the CIRCA team on the way here, those fuckers are tight! Especially David Reyes! Whammy!!

We are getting ready to get on the plane and head out to Tampa! I have never been to Tampa, or Florida for that matter! It is going to be crazy..kids killing themselves for fame and humiliation! I will be on the sidelines with Joey Digital talking about how awesome San Jose is! See you there!

Yesterday Terell and myself met with some wonderful people. It is these peoples main focus to help out the community they live in. With outreach programs, they have everything! From people who help you with your homework to learning about college grants and how to enroll in college, they do it all. The best is that's its free! How? Because they care about the youth of today. Here is where its at! Thanks everybody! Oh, they even have a class for kids to learn to set up a skateboard.....amazing.

A few days late, I know, but we went to the SKATEBOOK party at Matt Hensly's bar and grill in Carlsbad. SKATEBOOK is Mike Ballard, Samlan Agah, Grant Shubert, and Jai Tanju. Its a multimedia masterpiece you have to get your mitts on! OG San Jose was there I the house as well! Altogether an amazing!

Today sucks, as we all know. Having 4 days off then going to work is always unsettling, especially since I've got the shakes! Here are a few images that took place over the following week. We had an amazing time in the South listening to all the accents and eating food that was very, very bad for us. Well..except Dyet. Friday night was the OSIRIS "Feed the Need" video premier. DARKSTAR was there to support Gailea and PLG, who shared a part, and also Caswell, who had a part as well. The video was good, the beer was better, and the TILTMODE ARMY was there as well! All together an amazing evening. The highlight? Chet losing two grand to Matt Evs. Priceless.

Hello boys and girls, today is Halloween! Tricks and treats! Today gives us grown up's a excuse to dress up as whatever we want! It also gives females an excuse to dress up as sluts and ho's! Oops! I mean nurses and "dancers".

I would have updated the site sooner, but I lost my damn camera cord. So, Damn Am in Costa Mesa..I went to a costume party, saw a fight, baked in the hot ass sun, made fun of headbands and tight ass pants, drank natural light(water), hung out with some damn fine Canadians, ate sushi, and saw Ryan Decenzo get 3rd place out of over 200 kids. Well done Ryan. Maybe someday you will loosen up your wallet and buy us dinner for a change!

Last week quite a few of us here at Dwindle went to go see Nike's first ever skateboard video. This was Joey Digital's and Hunter Muraira's big, big night. There were some standout parts indeed, but I'm not giving away anything because I'm no movie snitch! Congrats guys on all your hard work!

This past weekend was the infamous GVR contest put on by Etnies and lots of other important people, like SLAP magazine. DARKSTAR was there with Terell, Ryan Decenzo and Nick Fiorini. Everybody skated, fun was had(after the contest) and the turnout was great. It was like a skateboarding Gymboree, lots of kids around. Regular footers won, and I was happy. Congrats team!

This weekend was the 8th annual memorial Tim Brauch contest. This event has been put on every year by two main people, Jason Strubing from SKATEWORKS, and Joel Gomez from SESSIONS clothing. DARKSTAR and ENJOI were there to help out with this amazing event. Also big ups to Greg Carroll and Justin Williams from EMPIRE dist. who also helped sponsor the event. Myself, along with HALBA and Team S.D. Announced the entire event, which went off without a hitch! Thanks to everybody who came, and thanks for Tim. You have made a lasting impression on us all, and you are missed my friend.

Most of you are too young to know who Fab 5 Freddy is, but he used to be on Yo! MTV Raps, arguably one the best shows to grace the screen of a television! I saw him yesterday, and it was an epic experience to say the least! So Fab, we here at DARKSTAR salute you! Holler!

Last night Josh from Red bull was kind enough to take us to a party in a limo. The party was an X-games mixer filled with a borage of faux hawks and douches..as to be expected in this "extreme" industry of ours. Red bull puts on one hell of a party. Mexican wrestlers, female contortionists, and burlesque dancers were just some of the entertainment. Thanks Josh, it was tight. X-games update tomorrow. Yippee.

Today was pretty damn tight. Despite the obvious...heat. I mean heat heat. I think I damn near sweat out my soul. Tempe park is fun, but not while your skating in a literal oven. The highlight of the day was going  over to Jaw's house. Backyard mini with a vert wall, then on the other side a drop-in to a makeshift rail...pretty damn crazy. Aaron's family are very nice people. It's fun here.

A best trick comp on a 6 flat 7 double set! Dam. The roster has some heavy hitters that are down to huck themselves. It’s heating up !

This years tampa am has come and gone. Damn, time flies. Nick Fiorini missed the cut by 10 and Ryan Decenzo was out with a bum heel. That’s what happens when you attempt to frontside flip 18.

After a few days of hanging out with dyet in salt lake city on frozen lakes ,  we have finished filming his commercial that will debut march 25th. keep a look out.

Adam Dyet has been charging to get his digital part done and it looks like its all coming together nicely. "A few more tricks and a line or two and I done. green room bitch" says Dyet. Look out for his part in "imagine” dropping in feb 2007.

PLG at the West 49 Canadian Open where he won best trick, quarter pipe...

As some may have heard, 3 months ago, PLG went flying off a vert ramp, and broke his knee cap on a manual pad/ ledge that was near by... yeah, ouch.  

But damn, SON!!! Only 3 months later he is back on it, coming up with 3rd in Orlando at the last Dew Action Sports Tour. Talk about bouncin' right back... garder le meurtre il, Pierre!

Volcom Damn Am went down this weekend and the Darkstar Am team was there destroying it! Adam Dyet, Nick Fiorini, and Darkstar's newest addition, Ryan Decenzo, were there representing the Am team, while flow guys , Brad Herrera, and Josh Campos made an appearance. Although Ryan Decenzo was the only one to make the cut, they were all killing it!!! Dyet was on a mission attacking the Hella Hifey wall (Check the pic of the back crail to tail) and check the footage of the back tail... and what was that they mentioned... Dyets last Am contest...?

 

 

 

The annual THRASHER KING OF THE ROAD issue is hitting shop shelves and mailboxes across the nation as this is being typed. For all others, we'll spoil it by tellin' ya Darkstar got 2nd place, and it's damn better than we ever dreamed since the competition comes down to tactical

Darkstar flow rider and phoenix local, nick Fiorini swept the boards at this year’s phoenix am contest. A weekend of clean and solid shredding saw nick sweeps the boards and roll into first place.

Nick took it all in his stride and remains as understated as ever.

Chet was quoted as saying "could possibly be the next am to lock in a permanent spot on the team"

Dale Crover (Melvins, OG Nirvana) has a new band: Altamont. They played the Scene In Glendale...
The lighters were for another band I assure you....
There is no reminiscing happening in Altamont, its straight pushing forward.


Meanwhile in other corners of the state, Pacifica Skatepark in SF is off the hook.

Yeah so there are a bunch of reasons why i chose this photo. This is Juelz Santana. Hes a platinum recording artist at Def Jam Records/DIPSET. This photo isnt what exactly inspires me but..... I actually got a chance to learn about how he was ready to release his own album but, his label was not. He didnt wait, he put out his videos/album out with his own money.
Thats not cheap! Now Juelz is the hottest act right now cleaning up on tour.
That shit inspired to me not wait around for someone to say ''ok go'' it inspired me to move to my own beat. If i need to travel somewhere and skate and finish up a part/interview that has to be done im taking it upon myself.
If you gotta move. MOVE! Don't wait for no one else because they might be slowing you down. Make sure you're ready though.

P.S. Another reason for this why this inspires me is that i got tickets to his show on March 1st.

I broke a board yesterday warming up shooting my add on a parking block it sucked. Green room.

The last time I broke a board was new years day. There is this spot in Melbourne that you can only skate one day of the year. I was trying this trick for about ten  minutes or so, on my last attempt I wiped out, my board went flying out into the street and got hit by a tram....the board was snapped in two as was the base plate on my trucks. I was hating life!

Ha. I don't really break boards, and can't remember the last time I did.

It's hard for me to remember because being mostly a vert skater, you don't break that many boards. I think the last time I broke one was the last time I was going nuts cause I couldn't make a trick and snapped. This sometimes results with a broken board depending on my  
mood on the day... I've been getting better controlling my temper cause snapping usually makes things worse and it's a waste of time....

About 4 years ago, I was in Florida for the Tampa contest. We were all having dinner at the spaghetti factory in Ebor city. While everyone was having an after dinner smoke, I decided I would go get the car and drive to the front of the restaurant and pick everyone up. Well, as I was walking in the lot I noticed 1 person walking towards me. I did not really think much of it at the time, but then as I started to change my direction he followed. At this time he calls out to a friend” yo Brian are you over there?” then I hear a second voice yell “Ya I’m over here” that directed my attention over to the second voice who was about 50 feet to my right hand side. Just as I figured out what was happening to me, a third person grabbed me from behind on the shoulder. I turned quickly and parried (karate defense move) his arms off of me. As I turned toward the direction of the first dude walking towards me, I see a fist flying right towards my temple. Fuck, this dude was trying to knock my ass out with a swift blow to the head, but lucky for me, I ducked just enough to have his fist land on top of my head rather than directly to the temple. At that point I knew I was in some shit, three dude trying to rob me. This is lady luck comes in. for some reason I have a knife with me that night. I popped it open as fast as possible and all three dudes just froze for a split second. I took advantage of the situation and ran like a bat out of hell as they all screamed “catch that fucking whiteboy, catch him”. That wasn’t happening; I was fucking out of there! As I get to the end of the parking lot, all three dudes scatter in different directions, got on their ghetto 10 speeds and they were gone. At that point the security guard in the lot asked “did you just get jumped? “ I looked at him in amazement just thinking, how much are they cutting you in on the muggings………. But I was way too happy to get out the situation to say a word. I could only think of what would have happened to me if I would have been knocked out, robbed, and beaten. Shit, sometimes it’s better to run than to stay and act like a tuff guy, whether I had a knife or not. You go to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to run! I new when to run, and I’m happy that I did! Good old Tampa.

On my first trip to Amsterdam, I was having a wonderful time and as it was drawing to a close I decided to check I had all my gear intact. To my complete surprise my passport and birth certificate were nowhere to be found. I must have left them in the cab that picked me up from the airport. I don’t know if you have ever tried to get a passport in a foreign country but it’s not as easy as getting other things. I was tripping out with my departure flight in two days. I had to go to the Canadian embassy two hours outside of Amsterdam and get a new passport.When it was time for the squad to fly home I was the last soul to get on the plane......I almost got stuck in Europe.

I grew-up right on a tree line in a small town, and used to drive my VW rabbit around in the bush up from my place.  This one day two officers came to my house and said my vehicle, and possibly me, were suspects in a murder case.  I guess some dude killed his infant kid and dumped the body around the same time I was up there driving around.  I still don't know if someone called me in thinking I did it, or what. Anyway they checked out my car and I never herd from them again.  To this day, I still have no idea why, or how, I got involved in that.   Now thats some crazy shit!

About 2 years ago, I went to NYC for a contest and from there I had to fly strait to germany so I could make it to another event in Europe on the same weekend... Anyways, I get done with the contest and go straight to JFK from the event and barely make it on time for my 6  PM flight. As I can remember, I was just on my cell phone while boarding the plane and the flight attendant was like, ' You cannot be on your phone while being on this plane' and I responded, ' what are you taking about, we're still boarding ? ' and she was like ' this is a German plane and we have german rules, you can't be on your phone' ???? I was like WTF ?? What are you taking about? As far as I'm concern we're still in America and we should still go by American rules ! I think I pissed her off at that point so I was just like whatever and ended my call. I sat down and was just chilling for a minute while everyone else was still boarding but forgot to turn my phone off and it happened to ring. I picked the call real quick to tell my girl I couldn't talk and since the flight attendant was watching me, she told me this was my last warning and the phone needed to be turned off... I was like, sorry I'm turning it off right now... A couple minutes went by and the plane started backing up and I though to myself, ' I forgot to shut off my sidekick' so I grabbed it and went to turn it off and the flight attendant went like' I've already told you you couldn't be on the phone' - I'm like" I'm not on the phone, I was just turning my pager off"... she never said anything back and left... 5 minutes went by and next thing I know, I got 4 NYPD cops on the plane asking her " is this the guy ?? " and she's like' yes thats him', pointing at me. So the cop goes, you're out of here, we can talk about it outside but the captain wants you off his plane !!!! I got kicked off the plane by 4 cops cause she though I was still on the phone!!! I explained the cops my story and they were kinda laughing but luckily they were cool and helped me to get rescheduled on the next flight that wasn't until late the next day.... But everything happens for a reason, I went straight back to the hotel to hook up with Jake B. and a couples others homies for a classic night of insanity in NYC !!! This was really a night of partying to remember but I'm not gonna get into that story right now... The next day I had time to go to Jacob the jeweler and bought a nice ring I still wear every day to remember that week end !

One of the more crazy things that have happened to me was getting stuck up at knife point.

A couple friends and I were sitting around at the McDonalds when a couple of dudes came up to us and asked "yo where you from?" we responded "all around”. I guess for some reason these guys didn’t like our answer and pulled a knife to my chest. I was kinda freaked out. They asked us to put all our money and stuff on the table we did. After this all went down and they had all our stuff they said, "don’t fuck with us if you ever see us again” and walked away and gave our stuff back. I have no idea why they didn’t just walk away with our stuff, but when all was said and done we were back on top and kinda sketched out.

"I just flew back from China today, I was in Shanghai for 5 days for the opening of a giant sk8park out there. My wife picked me up at the airport and we went to lunch. I was a bit jet lag so I took a power nap for a couple hours and then woke up to wash my car before dark. I also did some work around the house for a bit before we went for dinner... Now I'm probably just gonna pass out in front of a movie. No skating for today but I'll be back on the program tomorrow"

"Today I was Up early for another session of physical therapy. After a few hours or so later, I bolted home to grab some breakfast with my wife. I fed the dogs, cleaned up their shit in the yard ( literally) and filled their water bowls. I am walking around now so life could not be better. 12 days of crutches sucks. On with the day, I jumped on my bike with my friend Tom Jones and rode down the bike path to dog beach. A little more therapy and stretching then the long haul back home.

My foots feeling pretty sore by now, so I hook up to the ice pump and chill for a while and watch the dreadful television. Where did the day go? Off the ice and into the car to grab some dinner. I’m down for the count... see you tomorrow."
